Lincoln once said: when I am giving a speech, I have a feeling of fear, panic and fuss. Most people will feel very nervous when they speak on stage. There is no doubt that stage fright ranks high on the list of people’s fears. And how to overcome stage fright still remains a mistery for the most. However, it is not as difficult as we think to overcome stage fright. In this speech, I will talk about some effective ways to help to overcome this common fear.
First, we can find a topic that we are familiar with and then practice our speech composition. Topics are very important in our speeches. Most people feel frighted and nervous on stage because they are not familiar with the topic. For example, when a man who knows little about the Mississippi is giving a speech on introducing the Mississippi, he will feel fearful and nervous. So we can choose the topics we are familiar with and then we can be more active and confident. Once we determine the topic and finish our speech composition, we can read it as many times as we can. We all know that practice makes the perfect.
Second, we can arrive early and try to make a few friends with the audience. The feedbacks of the audience will have a great influence on us when we are on stage. We will feel confident,encouraged and relaxed when we realize we are trusted and appreciated by our audience. So a good way to overcome stage fright is to win the audience over. For that to happen, we can seize some golden opportunities to know as many people we can before our speech begins. And when it does, those we have spoken to previously would be more likely to give us positive feedbacks (like smiling, nodding). We will feel better and may start to enjoy speaking when we are trusted and appreciated our audiences.
In conclusion, if we can find a topic we are familiar with, practice our speech composition as mang times as we can, and make friends with the audience, we will make great progress in overcoming stage fright. What’s more, if we practice speaking as many times as we can, we will do as well as Obama one day on stage.
