The great changes made in China during the past 50 years have resulted in China becoming one of the most powerful countries in the world. Beijing is China's capital. Yet, the world understanding of Beijing lags behind; few know much about it. The Olympic Games would give Beijing a good chance to promote its image and show what China is like. An Olympic event in Beijing would be a significant breakthrough for Beijing, since China has never hosted the Olympic Games before.
Hosting the Olympic Games in Beijing will certainly accelerate China's reform drive and improve Beijing's infrastructure, enhance environmental protection, and the construction of sports facilities. We are bidding for more than just one Olympic event; we are bidding to promote the Olympic spirit and world friendship. The world is looking at us and supporting us.
I strongly support Beijing in bidding for the 2008 Olympics, because it will significantly influence China's political and economic life. More importantly, I hope this will encourage Beijing to improve its environment. Beijing will benefit from the publicity it will get. However, I am afraid the negative side is the financial burden it might bring to China. Rapid economic development and our huge population are Beijing's advantages, but traffic, air quality and its citizen's lifestyles may hinder Beijing's winning chances. I personally want to donate some money to the government and do more things to protect the environment. I obey the traffic rules strictly to help the traffic. I hope the whole people should be motivated and make contributions to the cause.
I support Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games.
We should impress the foreign guests with our hospitality, kindness and willingness to help.
Despite that we speak different languages, we can always lend a helping hand anywhere on the street.
