When asked the question if children should begin their formal education at a very early age and should spend most their time on school studies. Different people hold different viewpoints, especially people in different coutries.
For example, most of the Europeans and Americans may think it is beyond questions that children should spend most their time playing because they are chilrens, it is their right to play. But in most Chinese parents eyes, it is more important and necessary for their children to begin study at a very early age, it’s not unusual to see that a three or four-year-old child busy learning many skills, such as playing musical instruments, playing chess or drawing pictures in China.
Admittedly, they have their reasons, in their opinions, living in countries with serious competition just like China, more skills means more opportunities, and their chilren also need to study hard from a very early age in order to face the various of exams during their life time, and high marks can help their children to get a good job and have a bright future.
If I were faced with this issue, I would probably say that young children should spend more time playing, even in China.
Because for everyone, childhood is just once, it is the time given by the God for chilren to play freely, it is not fair for children’s simple heart to be entangled with the serious competition of the society. Childhood is just the time for children to be close to the nature, to know the nature, and to find their own interests. What’s more, it never be harmful to the study of children to play at their early time, contrarily, children can learn a lot of things from the nature when they are playing with insects, leaves, rivulets, winds, etc. And that is which they can never know sitting in the classroom.
In China, it is just the exams and the parents opinions that have put heavy burden on the children’s shoulders, and made their schoolbags heavier and heavier, but just as the famous saying, which goes “More haste, less speed” the big pressure can only kill the talents of young children and make them tired of study. Without considering the age and interests of the kids, parents are actually killing their curiosity and their right to make their own choice, and children are farther and farther away from the nature and their simple and happy heart.
So, please give back the precious childhood to our children, let them go with their own interests, let them do what they want, maybe one day they will become great scientists just like Newton and Einstein, who knows?

Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to deal with. Others, however, think that each individual should take some actions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
由于考题的提问形式是“Discuss both views and give your own opinion. ”所以,既要讨论到个人能够采取何种行动解决一些环境问题,也要讨论为什么有些环境问题个人无法解决(即只有或公司才能解决)。
Sample One:
It is true that our tiny individual actions often seem insignificant compared to the scale and complexity of global environmental problems such as pollution, deforestation and depletion of natural resources. But that does not relieve our duty as individuals to do as much as we can to deal with these problems.
Individual actions, small as they may be, can prove more effective than we realize. We can avoid driving the car, and take public transit, walk, or bicycle instead. This will reduce the use of fossil fuels and cut pollution. Saving energy at home, like turning on the air conditioner only when we have to, or turning water heater down a few degrees, is also ultimately good for the environment. Individual actions can also turn into united powers when, for example, the whole
neighborhood is mobilized to participate in a local campaign to oppose environmentally damaging policies.
There are, however, obstacles that stand in the way of individual
action towards environmental conservation. The first obstacle is the lack of professional knowledge needed to cope with serious
environmental issues like soil erosion and salinity, which require a significant amount of investigation and research. Another obstacle which makes individual action almost impossible is when an
environmental emergency or accident happens, e.g. an oil spill near the border line, which would necessitate government intervention or even international coordination.
So, in conclusion, when it comes to environmental problems, individual actions are indispensable in the problem solving process. But the most pressing and complicated problems go far beyond an individual’s capability and so require the concerted effort of the government as well as the global community. (RAFLE)
Sample Two
Many people say that we have developed into a “throw-away society”, because we are filling up our environment with so many plastic bags and rubbish that we cannot fully dispose of. To want degree do you agree with this opinion and what
measures can you recommend reducing this problem?
There is growing tendency nowadays for people to produce much more garbage than before. Some people hold an opinion that this leads to a throw-away society, for too many plastic bags and rubbish that can not fully dispose of threaten to overwhelm us. Personally, I agree with this opinion for the following reasons.
When we come to think about it, there are only three ways we can deal with rubbish. Dump it, burn it and change for something useful. However, no matter which way we choose, one thing is certain that garbage is everywhere. In the first instance, we throw useless things to garbage bins and sometimes we leave a trail of rubbish. When lorries carry waste to bury them, problems seemingly are solved. However, a lot of harmful things in these garbage dumps pollute our land. For instance, a set batter could turn fertile lands within 50 square meters into a barren desert. The second method is to burn it. As we fire rubbish, harmful gas is released to air. These poisonous substances pollute not only our health but also our atmosphere. Additionally, the last way we can choose is to turn garbage into something we can use again, which sounds a good idea. In fact, advanced recycle technology will cost a huge sum of money. We sometimes get low quality.
In view of the above reasons, I would recommend that some measures should be taken to end this serious problem. On the one hand, government should make some laws
to protect the environment. Environment authorities can fine people who bury harmful garbage under land or fire it. On the other hand, government can establish a fund helping environment organization to do recycle research. Last but not least, the public should be
further educated to recognize the seriousness of the problem. Once people know protection environment is their responsibility, they would not ask shop assistants to pack
goods in plastic bags or they prefer to use low quality recycled commodities. All in all, there are so many problems existing for environment pollution. If we can do
this, we can be assured that we will have a better and cleaner world in future.
Sample Three
Many people believe that human activity is causing the earth’s temperature to rise. They say that this global warming will have dreadful consequences for our environment, such as drought and flooding. What should governments do to help prevent global warming? Give reasons for your suggestions. The earth’s temperature is rapidly changing. As a result there has been a lot of climate change such as heat waves, droughts and floods. Scientists believe that this is the result of human activity, which is polluting the Earth’s atmosphere. This could become a disaster if governments do not act to help prevent global warming. They can act in three ways; by supporting research, by making laws and by keeping the general public informed.
Firstly, governments can support research. For example, they should encourage companies to develop vehicles that cause less pollution. They should also support alternative sources of electricity from wind and water rather than from oil and coal. As well, they should sponsor conferences to discuss the effects of greenhouse gas emissions and possible solutions to the problem.
Secondly, they should make laws that limit the amount of greenhouse gases that companies can emit. Private companies should be rewarded for following these laws. They should also be punished for creating pollution.
Finally, everybody is affected by global warming. Therefore, it is important that governments involve individuals in the problem solving process. For example they should encourage households to save as much energy as possible by using more efficient light bulbs or less hot water. They should also encourage the public to recycle, and this should be compulsory for everyone. Another way of saving energy is by public transport systems. Governments should spend money on public transport to make it as easy as possible for the public to save energy. In summary, it is clear that there are a lot of things that governments can do to prevent global warming. They should involve companies, support scientists and encourage individuals to protect the planet.
Sample Four On Environmental Protection (342 words)
Environmental protection is frequently talked about nowadays. The authorities are doing their best to arouse the public awareness of the vital importance of the environmental protection; and the news media, now and then, expose behaviors, which damage the environment. This issue is, indeed, worth following up.
Environmental protection is closely related not only to our personal life, but also to the entire human race and the world’s further development. For one thing, the environment, in a narrow sense, determines the quality of our individual life. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, etc., all come directly from the environment. If they continue to be contaminated, we may have neither clean water, nor healthy food. For another thing, in a broader sense, the environment plays a decisive role in the fate of mankind. As is known to all, the earth, up to now, is human being’s sole dwelling place. We can expect that someday we will live on another planet, but I doubt that this day will come earlier than the day when the earth becomes a globe of waste, if we keep damaging the environment. Finally, the environment is essential to the further development of the world. Extensive industrialization, which has brought about all the convenience and facilities we enjoy today, has been depending on the
comprehensive exploitation of the earth’s natural resources found in the environment. If we do not protect the environment properly, further development cannot be guaranteed. In a word, to protect the environment is an urgent task.
Nevertheless, environmental protection is indeed a demanding task. Many people are still, either unconscious of the urgency of the task or deliberately damaging the environment for the interests of their own. Hence, we should adopt severe punitive measures to prohibit people from doing more harms to the environment. Meanwhile, we need to make the gravity of the present situation known to all. In other words, punishment and instruction should be equally emphasized. Only in this way can we look forward to a cleaner and greener world.
Some people think that environmental problems are too big for individuals to deal with. Others, however, think that each individual should take some actions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
